MOST Australians claim they are cutting down on smoking and drinking and trying to eat healthily to help their mental health.
But a survey funded by Mental Health Australia also found some were doing better than others on common activities to improve their mental health.
MHA chief Frank Quinlan said the research looked at things such as "sleep and exercise, diet and involvement in the community".
Of those surveyed, 65% said they tried to cut down smoking, alcohol and drug consumption, 58% tried to eat healthily, 51% made time to socialise and 47% regularly got a good night's sleep.
But young people were least likely to socialise to improve their mental health and parents had little time for healthier activities.
