MH370 search faces uncertain future

A MEETING between politicians from China, Malaysia and Australia to discuss future efforts in the search for missing flight MH370 will go ahead in Putrajaya, Malaysia on Friday.

"I'm looking forward to meeting with our international partners in the search for MH370," Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said.

"The search has been unprecedented in both size and scale, conducted in some of the world's most isolated waters and at times in extremely challenging weather,

"The meeting will provide an opportunity to reflect on achievements to date and discuss next steps as we near completion of the 120,000 square kilometre search area."

On Monday it was reported that Australian authorities are examining a wing-flap which washed up on an island off Africa's east coast.

In December figures from the Australian Government's Joint Agency Coordination Centre - which was set up to coordinate the search - stated that the Australian Government had already laid out $90 million to help with the underwater search.

However JACC's website states: "It is expected that the underwater search may cost up to $180 million."

And it seems China has only committed $20 million and Malaysia $60 million.

Mr Chester's officed declined to comment on whether or not the Australian Government was going to commit more funds to the search effort.
