Michael and his hair get the chop on Beauty and the Geek
HE MIGHT not have won a spot back on the show, but Beauty and the Geek's Michael is happy with his makeover.
The DeLorean-driving Brisbane thermal assessor was one of four eliminated "geeks" to return to Fiji on last night's show for a makeover and a shot at getting back on the show to compete for the $100,000 grand prize.
Michael's transformation was dominated by the chopping of his long hair, which he has been growing for the past decade.
"I was prepared for it so I didn't cry," he told APN.
"It really did feel like I had another limb cut off of me… I did feel light-headed literally and figuratively because it was such a weight taken off my head."
His makeover was orchestrated by his team mate, 22-year-old Gold Coast beauty Temaura.
The brunette bikini model's eyes welled up during Michael's big reveal last night.
His transformation had an instant effect on Michael, who plans to keep up with some of Temaura's changes.
"I think I will keep the short hair," he said.
"The very first thing I did when I got home was I spent over $1000 upgrading my wardrobe trying to replicate some of the things that they put me in on the show."
His time on the show has also made him more confident, according to friends and family. Michael didn't tell anyone he was going on the show so his mates would be surprised when they saw the ads promoting the show.
"The best way for someone to see it and enjoy it is to actually see the show rather than just have me tell them about it," he said.
"Like the very first scene where we skydived on to the island. I didn't want to tell anyone I skydived. It's a lot more fun if they see that for the first time (on TV) when I'm jumping out of the plane."
But he's not letting go of his geek identity entirely. Michael still plans to wear his collection of DeLorean T-shirts.
"I think I'll keep wearing them, but I don't think I'll wear the (men's) braces," he said.
