Millions in the sale ring

GERARD Nolan believes prices were better than last year at the 2015 Magic Millions yearling sale at the Gold Coast.

"It was a bit better from our perspective," he said.

"Some people rated the Saturday night sale at the Magic Millions as the dearest they had seen for a long time," Gerard said.

"We weren't at the Saturday night sale as we had horses up for sale on Sunday."

Gerard and wife Jan, of Rosari Farms, had a highest price of $380,000 for a colt by Exceed and Excel out of Quack It. Exceed and Excel was the sire of this year's Magic Millions race winner.

Quack It is a sister to Anatina, a filly which the Nolan's sold for $460,000 at the Magic Millions. Anatina finished second in the Group 1 The Galaxy in Sydney.

"We have a lovely colt by Commands out of Quack It for next year," he said.

Basil and Diane Nolan, Basil jnr and Natalie Nolan from Raheen, Gladfield, sold 10 of the 11 they offered for a top price of $340,000.

"Prices were definitely up on last year," Basil said.

Raheen will now prepare 29 yearlings for the March Magic Millions Sale. All yearlings sold will be eligible for added QTIS prize money and for next year's Magic Millions Race for yearlings sold through a Magic Millions sale anywhere in Australia.

"The gross for the overall sale passed $100 million on Sunday," Basil said.

Daandine Pastoral Company, Goomburra, manager Mark McCann was happy with the sale of three yearlings.

They sold two colts by Written Tycoon for $175,000 and $165,000 and a filly by Ad Valorem for $35,000.

"We were pretty happy with the prices after paying a $10,000 service fee for the two mares to Written Tycoon," he said.

"Daandine will have two more yearlings in the March Magic Millions Sale."

The highest priced colt from Daandine out of Spring Collection was purchased by Denise Martins Star Thoroughbreds and will be trained by Chris Waller. The $165,000 colt out of Kitalpha was purchased by James Harron Bloodstock and will be trained by Peter and Paul Snowden.

The Ad Valorem/ Cone filly was purchased by Lynette Lawlor and will be trained on the Gold Coast by Sherrie Lawlor.

Noralla, Gladfield, sold four yearlings for prices from $75,000 to $100,000 at the Magic Millions.

Lyndhurst stud, Warwick, secured a top price of $140,000 from Hawkes Racing.
