MYSTERY SOLVED: The Rod Laver Bust on the Fitzroy river bank.
MYSTERY SOLVED: The Rod Laver Bust on the Fitzroy river bank.

THE mystery of missing Australian tennis legend Rod Laver has been solved.

Late last week, the commemorative bust of Rockhampton tennis star Rod Laver mysteriously disappeared from the Rockhampton riverbank - much like Bowen's 'big mango' disappeared in 2014.

The discovery was made by Rockhampton tennis players Warren Acutt and Peter Lynch, who hoped to take a photo beside the bust with a Cressy Tennis Club shirt signed by Rod Laver.

But when they arrived at the site of the bust near the former Saigon Saigon building, there was no trace of Rod.

Rockhampton Region Mayor, Margaret Strelow revealed Rod had gone on a holiday.

"Rod Laver is wrapped up in blankets and put away in storage for safe keeping during the riverbank redevelopment," Cr Strelow said.

"When the redevelopment is finished, Rod will be returned to public display."

Cr Strelow also added that the riverbank redevelopment was going well.
