Pedal manoeuvre cause of crash

IT was a case of the accelerator instead of the brake that caused the two vehicle crash at the roundabout of Opal and Egerton Sts.

The incident occurred at 11am on Monday when a 71-year-old male driving a silver Nissan sedan was travelling north on Opal St through the roundabout.

A 21-year-old male in a white Kia station wagon had entered the roundabout from the opposite direction and was turning right onto Egerton St when the other driver hit the accelerator by mistake and clipped the Nissan.

The white Kia continued through a guard rail and came to a stop on a grass strip. The driver was issued a ticket for failing to give way. No one was seriously injured in the crash.

ANOTHER two vehicle accident occurred on Friday at 5.20pm at the Capricorn Hwy and Gregory Hwy intersection opposite the Caltex service station.

A car received minor damage after it was rear-ended while stationary on the Gregory Hwy facing north.

The other vehicle was extensively damaged and the driver taken to hospital as a precaution after the airbag was activated.
