Motorist caught 69kmh over limit, fails drug test

A MAN was intercepted allegedly travelling 69kmh over the speed limit on the Gatton Bypass at Sandy Creek late yesterday afternoon.

About 6pm officers from the Toowoomba Road Policing Unit detected a four wheel drive travelling east, allegedly reaching a speed of 169kmh in a 100kmh speed zone.

The 30-year-old Harristown man was issued with an infringement notice, his licence was suspended for six months and the vehicle was impounded.

The man also allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test and investigations are continuing.

"It is extremely disappointing to see, in this day and age, that someone would even contemplate travelling at this speed let alone adding to their stupidity by doing so whilst having possibly consumed drugs," Inspector Ray Rohweder from Road Policing Command said.
