MP appointed to flood relief appeal

PREMIER Anna Bligh has announced she has appointed Member for Gregory Vaughan Johnson to the Distribution Committee for the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.

Mr Johnson said he was pleased and humbled to be asked to serve in this capacity and thanked every donor to the flood appeal.

“This has been an horrific wet season for Queensland. The scale of the flood event we are witnessing unfold has never been seen before. I have heard it described as biblical and having viewed it from the air, I would say that is an excellent description. Tragic is another word to spring to mind,” he said.

“This has been a slowly spreading disaster which actually commenced in Central Queensland in early December, peaking here around Boxing Day. At least in Central Queensland we had time to prepare.

“The terrible events in Toowoomba, the tragedy in the Lockyer Valley, repeated flooding in the Wide Bay and Darling Downs and the inundations of Ipswich and Brisbane show we are living through an event of historic proportions.”
