Emerald fitness event just muddy good fun

WITH just over three weeks until the Central Highlands gets down and dirty, preparations are well under way for Emerald's first Mud Run.

Obstacles are being constructed and the course is almost ready for action for when hundreds of runners take on the muddy track on February 17.

Organiser Laura Clarke said she and the other organisers were shocked by the response they got from eager participants.

"I am overwhelmed by excitement," Laura said.

"We knew it would be fun and draw a lot of interest, but we have been blown away with the support from participants and also our many local sponsors.

"We have loads planned for the day. The obstacles are all fun but challenging in their own ways - lots of mud, hay bales and trenches."

We are hearing lots of pink in support of breast cancer - tutus, lots of lycra, fluoro colours and even a team in wedding dresses.

With wacky names such as Muddy Shenanigans, The Mud Flaps and Muddy Rivers, Laura said she was excited to see the teams and how they dress up, as there will be loads of prizes up for grabs.

"We are hearing lots of pink in support of breast cancer - tutus, lots of lycra, fluoro colours and even a team in wedding dresses," she said.

"We are expecting to see at least a few hundred runners in costumes. It will be a sight to see."

With 630 runners ready to grace the track next month for the sold-out event, eight tickets have become available and will be up for auction on eBay from Friday.
