Brisbane Roar coach Mulvey playing down talk of unrest

WITH mutterings of player unrest following a horror start to the A-League season, Socceroo Matt McKay can't get back on the field quick enough to help Brisbane Roar arrest the club's early form slump.

McKay has been serving a suspension as Brisbane has struggled to adjust to life without gun striker and on-field inspiration Besart Berisha.

The Albanian is now with the Melbourne Victory, and combined with a wrist injury to number one goalkeeper Michael Theo, Berisha's departure has exposed the Roar and put coach Mike Mulvey under the pump.

He came out swinging when it was suggested there was discontent within the playing ranks.

"That's totally false. Absolutely 100% false," Mulvey told Fox Sports when asked about the "rumours".

If Mulvey can't break the drought against a struggling Melbourne City at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night, the knives may be sharpened a little more as they do when teams struggle as Brisbane has done this season.

Mulvey conceded the departure of Berisha, the loss of Socceroo Ivan Franjic to the Moscow Torpedos, and Theo's injury had all taken a heavier toll than he had expected.

Whether a win on Saturday night can turn things around for Mulvey is anyone's guess, but it would certainly get the critics off his back and give him a little breathing space to get things back on track.

Jack Hingert is expected to play at fullback against Melbourne Victory in a key positional change after Mulvey experimented with James Donachie in the unfamiliar role.
