TREASA Steinhardt got her wish this morning - to meet with Bruce and Denise Morcombe.

The Morcombes stopped in Rockhampton overnight on their one-week road trip up the Bruce Hwy to spread the message about child safety, reaching out to children by using their personal experience with their 13-year-old son, Daniel, who was abducted and murdered on the Sunshine Coast in 2003.

Ms Steinhardt's nine-year-old daughter Keyra was abducted on her way to her North Rockhampton home from school, and murdered, in 1999.

Ms Steinhardt met the Morcombes over a cup of coffee this morning to tell them she was thinking of them as the Daniel Morcombe case evolved, and that they were doing a good job with the child safety education campaign.

Bruce Morcombe last night expressed his happiness in how the couple's week-long road trip along the Bruce Hwy to spread the message about child safety had gone in the first three days.

"The trip has gone remarkably well," he said.

"When we go to a school, they (children) are concentrating on us, focused on what we are saying."

Mr Morcombe said the child safety message was not just about stranger danger, but also about children's personal safety, including neglect, abuse and assault.

The Morcombes will be at Emmaus College this morning before they head to Mackay.

Mr Morcombe said in the talk, they highlighted the point that "very fortunately, cases like Daniel's are very rare in Australia".

"When you walk home from school, don't feel every car that passes is someone who wants to snatch you," was one of the messages, he said.

Mr Morcombe said child safety needed to be a community-owned issue.
