Teen accused of murder

FORMER Toowoomba teenager Luke John Cotterill has been charged with the murder of a young woman in New South Wales.

Cotterill, 18, appeared in the Mudgee Local Court yesterday morning after being arrested at a friend’s house on Tuesday.

Michelle Morrissey, 19, was found stabbed to death at her home in Cox Street, Mudgee, just before 6.30pm on Saturday.

It has been reported the incident may have been a robbery gone wrong.

Cotterill grew up in Mudgee and his parents’ home is just 500 metres from where the murder happened.

Cotterill was arrested in Toowoomba in July last year after a violent carjacking at the Wilsonton Shopping Centre.

Cotterill threatened to slit the throat of a 38-year-old woman before he stole her car and later crashed into a resident’s garden at Cranley.

He fled the state and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
