Nanje's shooting for the top

ASPIRING young photographer Nanje Barry sets high goals for 2012.

The 16-year-old Yeppoon High School graduate took up photography in 2009 not long after moving from South Africa with her family.

"It all started in Year 10 when I did work experience at a photo lab, the lady there was a photographer and she started showing me several things," Nanje said.

"Besides that I am pretty much self-taught, I have watched a lot of You tube videos and searched some internet sites to learn techniques."

Nanje hopes to break into the fashion industry with the dream of becoming a fashion photographer.

"My aim is to photograph portraits for runway models, as well as other fashion things found in magazines.

"At the moment I am just doing a bit of everything just to gain some experience," she said.

Nanje hopes to expand on her knowledge through undergoing work placement as well as completing a TAFE photography course.

"The course is called My Nikon Life and it teaches you all different photography skills, having to complete assignments online and every now and then head to Brisbane and Sydney," she said.

"It teaches you a lot about runway, where to get a job and where to get the proper photography gear."

Nanje will begin work experience at the Morning Bulletin next week.
