New look has universal appeal
MISS Universe Australia finalist Rebecca Ronald experienced a Cinderella moment yesterday.
The Coolangatta golden girl had a moment of horror when she realised her wardrobe, while filled with the latest bikinis, did not include a dress worthy of a Miss Universe hopeful.
Designers extraordinaire Lisa Brown and Rachel Gilbert came to her rescue with gowns, while Australian Salon of the Year Mieka Hairdressing came to her aid to create a glamorous new look.
Yesterday Miss Ronald visited the Nobby’s Beach salon to have her tresses tended by owner and creative director, Tracey Hughes.
“I’ve had really bad experiences in the past with hair, but it’s been done perfectly and I feel very confident to go into the competition,” Miss Ronald said.
“When I made it through I was smiling so much my cheeks started to cramp – I never saw myself going so far.”
When asked how she dealt with negative body image in the competition, the aspiring motivational speaker agreed it could be difficult.
“It’s all about beauty and promoting women, however, there are key aspects that girls can feel self-conscious about and it’s a catch-22,” she said.
Ms Hughes said she focused on giving Miss Ronald a beautiful on-trend colour for the competition.
“To be able to support a local girl who we really believe is going to be a huge superstar is exciting,” Ms Hughes said.
Miss Ronald will compete in the final in Melbourne on July 5.
