SEVEN years ago former Rockhampton woman Sally Symonds was a workaholic, morbidly obese and had just split from her long-term partner.
She had hit rock bottom and after being turned down for a promotion at work she knew she had to change.
Since then, having lost 50% of her body weight (see before picture below), she’s turned her life around.
Yesterday Sally released her first book, a guide to weight loss called 50 Steps to Lose 50kg...And Keep It Off.
“I was working all the hours under the sun, which meant I had no social life,” Sally said.
“My long-term partner and I separated because I was always at work. I didn’t get the promotion I had worked so hard for and I was morbidly obese.”
Sally said she finally realised it was time to make a change when a family friend died from preventable cancer and she realised that people had the ability to change their own fate.
In the first 33 weeks a determined Sally managed to shed 45kg and years on is now down to just 53kg, half her original weight.
The former Rockhampton Girl’s Grammar School border avoided the usual gimmicks of weight loss and details the practical tips and tricks she used in her book.
“My book outlines exactly the steps I took and changed I made – to my food, exercise and mind – in order to transform myself from the food loving, exercise loathing workaholic I was then, to the food-loving, exercise-loving, work-balanced person I am now,” Sally said.
Now living in Brisbane, Sally is excited to return to Rockhampton for a book signing at Rockhampton’s Angus and Robertson stores on October 16.
She will visit the northside store at 10am and the southside store at 1pm.
Sally will feature on tonight’s episode of A Current Affair.
