New study shows Australian employees are badly behaved

WORKING from home never looked better.

A study by organisational psychology firm SACS Consulting has revealed a worrying list of counter-productive work behaviours favoured by Australian workers.

Among the behaviours highlighted in the study:

► 87% of employees ignored or snubbed people they did not like at work.

► 55% of employees had taken the property of organisations they had worked for.

► 68% of employees ignored safety or occupational health and safety rules at work.

► 56% of employees left jobs because there were people that they had not got on with.

► 73% of employees said that at some stage in their career they had taken a sick day when not really sick.

► 67% of employees had been intentionally rude.

► 88% of employees had broken rules at work.

"The impacts of counter-productive work behaviours are significant for both employers and other staff members," principal researcher Andrew Marty said.

"Researchers in the United States put a figure on the costs of these behaviours to business productivity at $200 billion each year.

"But these behaviours can also negatively affect workplace culture and create significant OHS risks."
