New Volvo XC90 being revealed from the inside out
THE wait for the all-new Volvo XC90 has been a long time coming...and now Volvo is drip-feeding the release of its new model.
It won't be completely revealed until August, instead Volvo is revealing the new family-friendly SUV from the inside out.
Pricing, specification or drivetrain options have not been released.
These first interior images have been released, with the most notable feature a tablet-like touch-screen control console which forms "the heart of an all-new in-car control system".
The touch-screen helps create a near button-less interior that is designed to be modern, spacious and uncluttered.
The All-New Volvo XC90's interior combines soft leather and wood with handcrafted details including a gearlever made of crystal glass from Orrefors, the famous Swedish glass maker, and diamond-cut controls for the start/stop button and volume control.
New seats have been designed to free up interior space in the second and third rows, helping to make the XC90 a genuine seven-seater.
"Just like classic Scandinavian chairs, our new seats prove that seats don't need a lot of thick padding to be comfortable. The full seat core has an ergonomic shape that resembles the human spine. A multitude of adjustment possibilities makes it possible for the individual user to create an ideal seating position," said Robin Page, Volvo Cars' interior design director.
The second row features three individual seats with recline adjustment. The sliding function can be used to create more legroom for the passengers in the third row - or to increase loading space if the third row seats are folded flat. An integrated child booster cushion in the centre seat is optional.
The seats in the third row are designed for passengers with a height up to 170cm.
Among the options list will be a four-zone climate controlled air-con system.
The original XC90 was launched in 2002. The current range starts from $69,990 for the 3.2-litre R-Design. That pricing has helped the XC90 maintain a presence in the large luxury SUV market, holding 4% of its segment so far this year.
