NICK Cave's side project Grinderman have called it quits following a festival performance in Australia.

"That's it for Grinderman. It's over. See you in 10 years," Cave was reported to have told the Meredith Music Festival crowd following the band's headlining slot, reported.

Cave, along with Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos, were together for around five years and recorded two albums together.

The last, Grinderman 2, came out about a year ago.
