No break expected as heat wave grips region

IF you have been hoping for a break in Emerald's heat wave, there is no good news in store as temperatures are expected to stay high for at least another week.

"Unfortunately for the week ahead, Emerald won't see any cooler temperatures," Bureau of Meteorology weather forecaster Michelle Berry said.

"However there could be the possibility of showers or thunderstorms next week more to the east of Emerald on Tuesday or Wednesday.

"The average temperature for Emerald at this time of the year is 33 degrees, and it has certainly been a couple of degrees warmer than that."

Ms Berry said it was unlikely Emerald and surrounding regions would see a hotter than average summer in the coming months.

"At this stage it doesn't look like it," she said.

"However there is a possibility of a wetter than normal wet season."
