No fears for City ahead of Reds clash

AFTER a shaky start to the season Adelaide United now heads the A-League ladder having gone 14-straight games without a loss.

Melbourne City will no doubt be aware of that record ahead of the clash at Coopers Stadium tonight, but did beat the Reds 4-2 back on November 5 in the only match between the teams this season.

"They are on a run now where it is all going their way with good play, so they have the confidence and they're a team that's really on fire," City coach John van't Schip said.

"We love to go for the challenge and play this game, that's what it's all about.

"We want to improve and also make sure we are up for a game like this."

Van't Schip confirmed Anthony Caceres would miss the game after straining a quad at training this week.

But with only Corey Gameiro on the long-term injury list and a clean sheet from last Saturday night's 3-0 win over Sydney FC, City will fancy its chances of ending Adelaide's unbeaten streak.

City is in fourth place, just four points behind the Reds in the race for the Premier's Plate and championship.

Socceroo Tarek Elrich will miss the game for the Reds, with the defender to be sidelined for a month with a groin injury. Isaias is back from injury for Adelaide.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic is set to become the first player to make 250 A-League appearances.

The 30-year-old will reach the milestone against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.

Vukovic played 104 times for the Mariners after making his debut in 2005.

He also played 17 times for Wellington before making another 106 appearances for Perth Glory before his move to Melbourne.
