NOSE biter Hayden Campbell Bowie has avoided jail for his attack on a teenager but will remain under supervision for the next three years.
Footage of the 31-year-old's drunken attack on a 19-year-old man at a McDonald's restaurant in the Western Downs town of Chinchilla was today played to Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
Magistrate Rod Madsen had requested to see the CCTV vision as well as more information on the effect the attack had on the teenager's employment.
The court previously heard Bowie was "nauseated" by the footage, which had contributed to Mr Madsen wanting to see it.
A victim impact statement tendered to the court detailed how the victim had been at the counter filling out a competition form about 11pm on August 27 last year to guess how many lollies were in a jar in front of him.
It was while he was doing this that footage showed Bowie approach him and strike him on the head before moving away.
Bowie then approached the teen again, who was backed against a wall when Bowie leaned forward and bit him on the nose.
Staff then became involved, convincing Bowie to leave.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Tanya Fitzgerald read out the victim's impact statement, which said he had lost his job a fortnight after having to take a morning off work for medical treatment of the bite wound.
Sgt Fitzgerald said it was clear the victim had lost his job as a result of the assault.
However, defence barrister Alastair McDougall said there was no information directly linking the assault to the victim losing his job.
Mr Madsen noted that Bowie had taken extensive steps in rehabilitation of his alcohol problem.
Bowie was sentenced to 14 months in jail, immediately suspended for three years and ordered to pay the victim $1000 compensation.
He was also placed on a three-year probation order, ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and banned from driving for two years and six months for other offences including drink driving and driving on a suspended licence.
