Notorious pedophile wants to be released from jail
ONE of the country's worst child rapists is preparing to make a bid for freedom.
Douglas Brian Jackway, the psychopath predator who was once a key person of interest in the abduction and murder of Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe, is behind bars indefinitely for the rape of a nine-year-old girl.
He was previously convicted of abducting and raping a boy near Gladstone in the mid 1990s and had only recently been released from jail and into the Sunshine Coast community when 13-year-old Daniel disappeared in 2003.
Under Queensland's Dangerous Prisoners (sexual offenders) Act, Jackway's performance in jail and the potential risks he poses to the community if released, are regularly reviewed.
His case was mentioned briefly on Thursday in Brisbane Supreme Court which heard Jackway intended to "resist” the Attorney-General's department's application for his continued detention.
A hearing was set down for Tuesday, April 18.
