IT'S an American reality TV staple and now Australia has its very own series of The Real Housewives.
The popular TV franchise currently has six shows in production in cities across the US and has spin-offs in Canada and France.
Now it's the ladies of Melbourne's upper social crust who are getting their turn in the spotlight.
The 10-part Real Housewives of Melbourne follows six of the city's most glamorous movers and shakers, from the sister of fashion designer Bettina Liano to the psychic wife of an Aussie rock star.
Self-made business tycoon Chyka Keebaugh is one of the less flamboyant women of the group, not to say she doesn't do big hair, sparkling jewels and killer heels.
But the mum of two seems to have a bit less time for the drama that embroils some of the other women in the show's first few episodes.
"I love that we're all career women and we all do things. We're all strong in our own ways," she told The Guide.
"It's a really interesting psychological experiment and I loved it."
A former regular on Good Morning Australia, Keebaugh sees herself as the peacekeeper of the group. And the other five women certainly needed her, with young Melbourne newcomer Jackie Gillies rocking the boat with her upfront nature and psychic insights.
"There was a lot of bitching and fighting and everything in between, but my personality is not to get involved," she said.
"I'm non-confrontational. I'm happy to be the person who brings everyone back together again. I feel like that was my role and I feel like I did it." Keebaugh has formed a close bond with Gillies, who was new to Melbourne after making the move south from Sydney with Silverchair drummer husband Ben Gillies.
"I instantly clicked with her. She's one of those people. She doesn't muck around. If she has something to say she says it," she said.
"She's still quite young. She hasn't had a family. She is starting up her own business... It's been a huge learning experience for her, too." Cameras follow the luxurious lives of these well-to-do women as they attend launch parties, long lunches, charity events and the various appointments needed to maintain their flawless features.
It's guilty pleasure viewing, a view into how the other half lives.
