1.46kg of cannabis found in baby bath in drug producers home

A COURT has ordered an "amateur" cannabis producer's hydroponics set-up be forfeited to the Crown and destroyed after he pleaded guilty to three charges on Friday.

Troy John Jager appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, producing dangerous drugs and possessing drug-related utensils after police raided his Tungamull home last April.

The court heard police found 1.46kg of cannabis drying in a baby bath and plastic containers in the garage and a further two grams in two different containers.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said police also found 5g of cannabis in a coffee jar, 6g in a separate container, 89g of cannabis seeds, along with a further 12g in packages throughout the bedroom and kitchen and 15g in a bucket by the front door.

Police found a hydroponics set-up in a shipping container in the back yard, complete with four plants under lamps and a watering system. A further three sites with plants growing were found with a total of 18 cannabis plants.

"The sophistication could be said to be more than putting seeds in a pot," Mr Fox told the court.

Defence lawyer Brian McGowran told the court the 43-year-old's plants were of the "tall, leafy, stemmy variety" and not fit for smoking.

"It was not smokable, like the amounts in the Moccona jars," he said.

"(He told me) all the leafy stuff just gives you headaches and it's more or less pointless. I'm not an expert but it looks stemmy and leafy and not a large amount, he's an amateur."

Mr McGowran said the drugs were produced for personal use to relieve pain from injuries sustained in a traffic crash.

Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll warned Jager he risked jail time if the drugs were produced for a commercial purpose.

He was sentenced to 18 months' probation with no convictions recorded.
