Olympian’s tragic post after daughter’s death
AMERICAN Olympian Bode Miller has written a heartbreaking post over the death of his 19-month-old daughter who drowned in a pool.
"We are beyond devastated," Miller said in an Instagram post that showed several photos of the blonde, blue-eyed, chubby-cheeked toddler.
"Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life and lived it to it's fullest everyday [sic]. Our family respectfully requests privacy during this painful time."
Miller's wife Morgan Beck was inside their neighbour's home talking to people when she realised Emmy wasn't with her - and rushed outside, spotted the child in the pool and pulled her out, a fire official said, according to the New York Post.
"They were at a neighbour's house, talking to the neighbours inside, and somehow the little girl made her way to the backyard pool," Orange County Fire Authority Captain Steve Concialdi said.
"Mom went straight to the backyard to where the pool was. The child was in the pool. The mom pulled out the little girl, and they started CPR immediately."

The former World Cup alpine ski racer and his beach volleyball player wife have since received messages of love and support from fans.
One fan posted: "This makes my heart hurt so much. @millerbode, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter. I will be praying for you all."
Another wrote: "This is Incredibly sad - you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Heavenly angels have gathered little Emmy up in their wings. RIP"
Miller posted a father-daughter photo on his Instagram account along with the caption, "Thank you for all the love and support and to our midwives @lindseymeehleis and @courtneykellis for helping us find the support our family needs during this impossible time."
The 40-year-old and his wife shared the tragic news that their daughter had tragically died after a drowning accident just a day earlier. The toddler drowned in a pool in Orange County, California.
Authorities confirmed to CBS News that they received a call at 6.28pm local time Saturday. Responding paramedics found the baby unresponsive. They tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the girl. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and was declared dead.
"They had no pulses the whole way," said OCFA's Capt. Tony Bommarito. "It didn't end well."
In a bittersweet twist, just a few months ago, the pair announced they were expecting another baby in October this year.
The sport-star duo are parents to Nash Skan, 3, and Miller has two children from a previous relationship, Samuel, 5, and Neesyn, 10.
Miller is a six-time Olympic medallist (one gold, three silver, and two bronze).
The US Ski and Snowboard Team also tweeted its condolences to Miller and his family.
