12.30pm: A TEENAGER killed in an horrific car crash at Marlborough near Rockhampton on Tuesday was a German national who had recently visited Hervey Bay.

Police originally believed the 19-year-old was from Torquay as the car had been registered at a Hervey Bay hostel address.

A South Australian truck driver, 40, was also killed in the crash about 4kms south of Marlborough on the Bruce Hwy.

The accident left the Bruce Hwy closed for about six hours on Tuesday.

Police are investigating the cause of the collision between the truck and car.

Rockhampton Road Policing Unit Sergeant Dave Arthurs said investigations on Wednesday revealed the teenager was a German national who had been in the country for just three or four weeks.

The 20-year-old passenger in the car, also a German national, was released from hospital on Wednesday after being treated for minor injuries.

"They were doing the usual 12 months backpacking," Sgt Arthurs said.

"They were on their way to Cairns."

Sgt Arthurs said the pair had purchased the car in Sydney before registering it in Hervey Bay.

It is not known how long the pair spent in Hervey Bay but it is understood they had also spent some time in Bundaberg.

A COLLISION involving a truck and a station wagon on the Bruce Hwy has ended in the death of both drivers - a teenage male and 40-year-old man.

It has been confirmed by a police spokesman on Wednesday morning that the teenage male, believed to be a 19-year-old, is a resident of the Hervey Bay area, while the truck driver was from South Australia.

About 1.50pm on Tuesday, emergency service crews were called to the scene of the accident around 4km south of Marlborough on the Bruce Hwy.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the men, who were each driving a vehicle, were found deceased at the scene.

A third person, the passenger of the car, was left with no obvious major injuries, and was able to get out of the wreckage.

The person was later airlifted by the RACQ.

The accident left the Bruce Hwy closed for around six hours on Tuesday, with crews still present at the scene until the early hours of the night.

The identity of the teenager killed in the crash had not been released on 

TUESDAY:

7.30pm: THE ages of the two men killed in an accident on the Bruce Highway today have been released.

A spokesperson from the Queensland Police Service said the truck driver was South Australian man in his forties, while the driver of the car was a teenager from the "Hervey Bay, Maryborough area."

Both men were found deceased at the scene.

7pm: THE Bruce Highway is now open south of Marlborough.

The road had been closed following a double fatality today, where a truck and car had collided.

5.30pm: A SPOKESPERSON from the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service have confirmed their crews remain at the scene.

It is believed the road has not yet been re-opened.

4:15pm: A SPOKESPERSON from the Queensland Ambulance Service has confirmed both drivers of the truck and car that collided on the Bruce Highway today were declared deceased at the scene.

The accident occurred at around 1.50pm, about 4kms south of Marlborough on the Bruce Highway.

The spokesperson said the car's passenger did not present with any "obvious major" injuries, and was able to remove themselves from the vehicle.

3pm: QUEENSLAND Ambulance Service have confirmed they are treating at third person involved in double fatal crash at Marlborough this afternoon.

A spokesperson said two people were dead and a third is being treated at the scene, which is about 4kms south of Marlborough on the Bruce Highway.

Other reports indicate the highway will be closed for 6-8 hours as emergency services continue to work.

The RACQ Capricorn Rescue Helicopter has just landed at the scene.

2.55PM: POLICE have confirmed a truck and a car have collided in a fatal crash at Marlborough this afternoon.

Other reports indicate the Bruce Highway will be closed for six to eight hours.

2.30PM: REPORTS indicate two people have died in a fatal crash at Marlborough, on the Bruce Highway, this afternoon.

ABC reports that it is a double fatality.

The Department of Main Roads has issued a road closure notice for the scene:

Please be advised that the Bruce Highway is currently closed approximately 4km south of Marlborough (north of the PUMA Service Station) due to a traffic crash.

Emergency services are on the scene. Please avoid the area if possible.

2.15pm: AMBULANCE officers on scene at serious crash at Marlborough.

 

1.56pm: REPORTS indicate the crash is at Marlborough near Kunawarar Rd and is a fatal.

1.50pm: EMERGENCY services are responding to reports of a crash at Kunawarara where a man is reportedly trapped in a vehicle.

Reports indicate a truck is involved.
