One Nation co-founder sues Tony Abbott

OPPOSITION Leader Tony Abbott says a lawsuit taken out against him by One Nation Party co-founder David Etteridge will be nothing more than a "side show".

Mr Etteridge is suing Mr Abbott for more than $1.5 million in damages for his alleged role in helping to raise funds for litigation against One Nation in 1998 through the Queensland courts.

Mr Abbott, who has been summonsed to appear at a directions hearing in the Brisbane Supreme Court on May 9, described his actions 15 years ago as "justified".

He said his view that One Nation was "dodgy" was "vindicated by the courts".

"This is going to be just a bit of a sideshow and I try not to be in sideshows if I can avoid it," said Mr Abbott, who will seek legal advice in an attempt to avoid appearing in court.
