Orientation a day full of inspiration
CQUNIVERSITY held its annual Orientation Day and Academic Awards Ceremony on Monday, February 21.
The orientation day was held at CQUniversity’s Emerald Learning Centre where proceedings commenced at 9am with over 30 new students in attendance. With three student mentors assisting the new students with orientation, it was a motivational day.
“Our mentors are a fantastic resource who provide our new students with a friendly face and a wealth of information,” senior education academic in the School of Education Maria Parlato said.
Operations and projects manager Gai Sypher said she was very pleased with the attendance.
Staff from CQUniversity in Rockhampton travelled to Emerald to ensure the day ran smoothly.
The annual CQUniversity Academic Awards Ceremony took place at the Emerald Meteor Motel. The formal proceedings began at 6.30pm, compered by Maria Parlato.
CQU prides itself on its work-ready graduates. This spirit was exemplified by a past graduate in the Bachelor of Learning Management, Jessica Goodman, as she presented a speech on her learning journey at CQU Emerald Learning Centre.
“I have never felt more proud, than I did listening to Jessica’s speech,” Gai Sypher said. “It was wonderful to see our talented students in attendance.”
Award recipients included Angela Horn and Estelle Schluter for the highest GPA in Introductory and Contract Law, Mandy Ecker for the highest GPA in Principles of Economics, Bridie Willis for the highest GPA in the First Year of the Bachelor of Learning Management, Nicole Jackson for the highest GPA in Bachelor of Learning Management, Betty Kunaka for the highest GPA in Marketing and Kelly Wilkins for the highest GPA in Principles of Accounting.
Local Business Scholarships were awarded to Matthew Free and Milla Holland.
“I have never felt more proud in my twelve years at the University,” Gai Sypher said.
