VIDEO: Gladstone mum in court over Rocky baby's death

UPDATE 11.05pm:

THE baby's mother, Megan Freeman, 22, was given bail this morning and will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on December 17.

She has been charged with one offence - cruelty to a child.

Gladstone prosecutor Sergeant Barry Stevens opposed the bail application, saying her case intertwined with the case of Holland.

Sgt Stevens said Holland had tried to influence her evidence.

He outlined horrific injuries and trauma which had been suffered by the child between one and four weeks prior to the boy's death.

This included seven skull fractures, two broken collarbones, 17 broken ribs and bleeding to the brain.

The evidence will be that the child died in the Mater Hospital in Brisbane on May 31, 2013 as the result of head injuries.

UPDATE 10.22am:

CHRISTOPHER Holland, 31, made a brief 15-minute appearance in the Gladstone Magistrates Court this morning charged over the death of the baby boy in May 2013.

With short cropped hair and wearing a red Coca Cola singlet and black sports shorts, Holland sat quietly in the dock, only speaking to his duty lawyer Jun Pepito to complain about the media in the courtroom.

He is charged with the manslaughter of the 11-week-old child following an incident in Rockhampton in 2013, and a charge of child cruelty.

No pleas were made and the case was adjourned to the Rockhampton court on December 17.

We'll update the story after the baby's mother appears in court this morning.

TWO people have been charged following the death of an infant in Rockhampton more than two years ago.

Detectives from Rockhampton Child Protection and Investigation Unit and State Crime Command, Child Trauma Task Force charged a 31-year-old West Gladstone man with one count of manslaughter and cruelty to children and a 22-year-old West Gladstone woman has also been charged with cruelty to children.

The baby boy died in North Rockhampton in May 2013.

Both are due to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
