Palmer ahead by 96 as the slow vote to Fairfax drifts on

A BUNDLE of 201 provisional votes counted today has pushed Clive Palmer out to a 96 vote lead as the battle for Fairfax came closer to a conclusion.

The provisional votes flowed to Mr Palmer this morning at the rate of 73.13% to the LNP's Ted O'Brien's 26.87%. Of the 201 counted  Mr Palmer secured 148 to Mr O'Brien's 53.

Counting tomorrow will allocate the remaining 337 absentee votes with the last of the postal and pre-poll ballots to be counted Saturday morning.

As of today there are 423 pre-poll and 150 postal ballots received by Fairfax Returning Officer David McKenzie with a close of business tomorrow deadline for any late arrivals.

Projections at this point place Mr Palmer on course for a 45 vote victory, an outcome that will lead to an automatic recount by the Australian Electoral Commission.
