UPDATE: 2.30 pm A DRIVER who lost control of her car and drove off the Bruce Hwy, crashing into an underpass below, escaped serious injury.

The 66-year-old Sippy Downs woman was trapped in her car when it came to rest on its side against and embankment on Frizzo Rd, Palmview just after 9.30am.

A spokesman for Queensland Police Service Media said the woman, who was driving south in a Holden Commodore, veered onto the grass median strip after a failed lane-merge.

"A truck was in the lane the car was going into," he said.

"The (car) driver veered across the lane from right to left and possibly clipped the back of that truck and has gone off to the right again, and then across the grass.

"(She) then crashed down between two bridges."

Fire crews worked to stabilise the vehicle and free the driver, who complained of abdominal pain and other injuries.

She was taken from the scene near Aussie World about 10.30am and transported to Nambour Hospital in a stable condition.
