PCYC is ready to celebrate
TONIGHT Blackwater PCYC will hold a party for youths and families in support of Disability Action Week.
Sergeant Dominic Richardson, branch manager of the PCYC, said the organisation is happy to support such a great cause.
"We were approached by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services to host an event for disability action week,” he said.
"They department was looking to spread the message about the national awareness week and support our community. And of course we were more than happy to support such a fantastic cause.”
Disability Action Week is a national awareness week.
It is a chance for communities to celebrate people with disabilities living their life with passion.
The PCYC fun night is just one of a number of events held in support of the week country wide.
Sergeant Richardson says the event would be fun for the whole family.
"We encourage the community to come along and enjoy a free, safe and supervised youth activity that parents can get involved with as well,” he said.
"It's a great opportunity for families to come along and celebrate the end of the school term and the start of holidays.
"However we could not have provided the community with such a great event without the support of the department.”
The event is free and will included roller skating, bubble soccer, dodge ball, a disco and even a free barbecue.
Sergeant Richardson said the event coincided perfectly with the paralympics and the fantastic results of the Australian team.
"The success of the Australians at the paralympics is a great example of how disability does not stop people achieving their dreams,” he said.
The event will run from 5-7.30pm tonight at the Blackwater PCYC, located at 1 Yeates Ave.
