Police identify woman killed in Gatton road tragedy
UPDATE 2PM: Police are liaising with Taiwanese consular officials after a woman was struck by a car and killed on her way to work in Gatton.
The 19-year-old died at the scene after she was struck by an oncoming ute on the Gatton Helidon Rd about 5.10am.
Initial investigations suggested the itinerant worker had been walking east along the busy road behind a truck when she went to cross the road.
Gatton police Senior Sergeant Acting Officer-in- Charge Rowland Browne said early indications suggested the Taiwanese national had attempted to cross the road in a 100kmh zone when she crossed into the path of an oncoming tray-back ute.
"While the matter is being investigated and will be referred to the coroner, it appears that the deceased has walked onto the road behind a truck and into the path of an oncoming vehicle," he said.
Police received a 000 call at 5.10am with reports of the fatal incident and, despite the best efforts of first responders, the woman died at the scene.
The 41-year-old Gatton man driving the ute was understood to have been in shock after the incident.
Snr Sgt Browne said police investigations continued and contact had been made with the Taiwanese Embassy in an effort to locate the woman's family.
She had been employed as a seasonal worker at a nearby agricultural farm.
Police appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or been in the area, to come forward.
10.50AM: Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal traffic crash in Gatton this morning.
A woman died at the scene after she was struck by an eastbound vehicle on the Gatton Helidon Rd about 5.15am.
Initial investigations suggest the woman was walking along the road when she was hit near the corner of Wells Rd.
The busy road was closed for more than four hours and Forensic Crash Unit investigators probed the incident scene.
Anyone with any information who may have been travelling along the road from about 5am is urged to contact police.
9.30AM: Investigations are continuing after a woman pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck in Gatton this morning.
Police advise the Gatton Helidon Rd has reopened to traffic around the incident scene.
Initial reports suggest the woman had been walking along the road near Apex Park when they were struck by a passing vehicle.
Police received the first emergency call at 5.15am, with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services contacted at 5.20am.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
7.45AM: A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Gatton this morning.
Emergency services remain at the scene of the serious incident on Gatton Helidon Rd as investigations continue.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are reviewing the scene after a person was struck by a car about 5.15am.
A police spokesman said officers were attempting to locate the person's next of kin of the tragedy.
Traffic diversions remain in place around the scene, with western traffic directed to Gatton Clifton Rd and east to Robinsons Bridge at Robinsons Rd.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services yet to clear up the scene.

The road is closed and traffic diversions are being set up for motorists who are urged to avoid the area is possible.
The road will likely remain closed for several hours, police said.
