A PET dog has been found dead at the back of a Brisbane home after being tied to a plant in a sickening attack.

The 17-year-old Maltese terrier "Scruffy" was found dead at the back of his owners Northam Ave, Bardon, property on Friday.

Scruffy was allegedly attacked sometime between 10.30am and 3pm on April 21.

A towel from the family's clothes line was tied around the dog's neck, Queensland Police said.

Using the towel, Scruffy was then tied to a plant at the back of the property and was found dead by its distraught owners.

Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
