Peter Furler's On Fire tops charts
ONE of Australia’s biggest music exports is back on the top of the charts after the release of his debut solo album.
Peter Furler, who started Newsboys in a garage in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, yesterday released On Fire and within hours it was on the top of the most downloaded albums on iTunes for Christian music.
Furler’s career already includes 25 number one songs, more than seven million album sales and multiple awards.
On Fire was yesterday winning critical acclaim – both from the fans on Facebook and music industry veterans who have watched him over the past 25 years.
The multiple Grammy nominated artist, who was also named Christian music’s Songwriter of the Year, says he has been humbled by the support of fans and the music industry.
"Many times in the process of making this album I felt something special was happening. The reaction from fans and critics has confirmed those feelings,'' Furler told the Sunshine Coast Daily.
" My favorite song on the record at the moment is "Glory to the King".
"During the writing and recording of that tune my Grandma passed away in Adelaide. It reminds me of her brilliant legacy and her brilliant future."
The first single off his album Reach has received great airplay while Furler will feature on the July covers of leading Christian music magazines.
"It's been very humbling to have such a loving welcome back "
Furler said his music had always been about making a difference and leaving his audience encouraged – and his latest album is no different.
“Reach’’ has broken into the Billboard Top 10 overall Christian radio airplay chart as well as topping the Australian equivalent for airplay.
The song also becomes Furler’s first video as a solo artist.
The video, which is also shared here on godtube, snared more than 15,000 hits in a matter of hours after its release on Tuesday.
Peter’s father, Bill Furler, of Buddina, adds his voice to one of the four corporate worship tracks on the album, “Greater Is He”.
Furler said the album was a new beginning after the heavy touring schedule with Newsboys.
The keen surfer moved from Nashville to the Gulf of Florida and took time to reflect and express himself through visual art, surfing and playing music just for pure enjoyment.
