PEUGEOT Australia is offering its final 40 RCZ performance coupes to buyers at a driveaway price of $49,990.
With these final models being the last you'll be able to buy new - there will be no further editions of the stylish coupe with trademark "double bubble" roof - the sub-$50k price is certainly eye-catching, saving buyers around $14,000 when compared to the typical driveaway price.
Peugeot sold only 70 RCZ coupes in 2015 - 35% fewer than the year before - a long way off rival sporty style statements the Nissan 370Z (434 sales in 2015), VW Scirocco (367 sales) and Audi TT (651 sales). The striking French coupe's rarity will boost its appeal to some buyers however; such scarcity mixed with unquestionable good looks means the RCZ still has the ability to turn heads despite being on our market since 2010 (with an update in 2013).
The final 40 RCZs feature a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine paired to a six-speed manual (147kW version) or six-speed auto (115kW version), or come with a 120kW 2.0-litre turbo-diesel with six-speed manual.
Performance fans miss out on a price reduction for the hotter 199kW RCZ-R version for now, which is still listed for $68,990 RRP or around $75,000 driveaway. Big difference.
Your sub-$50 price for the milder RCZs includes sat nav, dual-zone climate, leather- clad heated electric seats, 19-inch alloys, electric rear spoiler and LED running lights.
Peugeot will be upping its focus on offering us Peugeot Sport-fettled performance versions of its standard cars (the 308 GTi arrives this month for example), sadly meaning an end to costly niche exercises like the RCZ. A shame as few cars on our market have the sporty presence of this enticing coupe, making that $49,990 driveaway price look very tempting indeed.
