AUSTRALIAN wildlife photographer Billie Runningbear is attracting attention all over the globe.

Earlier this year the Toowoomba photographer's work appeared in a New York art gallery.

He was also approached by the Russo Gallery in Italy to run for the position of the Marco Polo International Art Ambassador.

This month he was announced as the ambassador thanks to his skills behind the lens.

Mr Runningbear said the judges were fascinated with his photos.

"I am still coming to terms with my new title," he said.

"It's amazing and I'm still on a bit of a high.

"I only started photography as a hobby and I had no idea it would take off like it has."

Mr Runningbear's work is also scheduled to appear in exhibitions in Nevada and Miami and has just been published in the World Wide Art International Masters of Photography book.

He said six international exhibitors had contacted him over the past few months.

"It's fantastic that I am getting so much overseas interest in my work," he said.

"It's a shame my own country isn't more interested but I understand why my photographs of the Australian outback and animals attract attention from overseas.

"It is something they don't get to see very often so it appeals to the rest of the world more than it does to Australians."
