NEW Year’s Eve 2010 was a time everyone in Emerald is not likely to forget.

As water levels rose throughout the town, swallowing homes and businesses, the community captured these unforgettable moments.

Judi Liosatos headed up a group which has gathered these moments together for a commemorative book.

The 2010-2011 Central Highlands in Flood, With a Little Help book will be launched tonight with an accompanying photographic exhibition and charity auction at the Emerald Art Gallery.

The 92-page book includes more than 500 images and stories from around the Highlands, of which 112 images will be on display in the exhibition.

“We had an amazing response from the community but it was a massive job,” Judi said.

“It took about five weeks to put together… I’m proud that the community trusted me enough to hand me their images and stories to share.”

More than 9000 images were submitted and Judi had the difficult job of narrowing it down.

The book also includes stories from locals along with letters of encouragement from the Governor General, Prime Minister and Premier.

“The book is crammed with stories, some are humorous, some are from children and some from farmers who lost everything,” she said.

“There are stories from every town across the shire.

“Some stories didn’t get in or only portions because of the sheer volume I received, but everyone got something in.”

Judi said she added “With a Little Help” to the book’s title as she looked at the perspectives of both the helpers and the helped.
