Pilley out of British Grand Prix

DESPITE comfortably winning his first round match,Yamba's squash star Cameron Pilley has bowed out of the British Grand Prix squash tournament in Manchester after a tight four-game loss to Australian Open champion Ramy Ashour.

"I beat Aamir Atlas Khan 3-0 to start the tournament and it was sweet revenge for me as he put me out of the Malaysian Open semis in July," Pilley said.

"I played fairly solid, with minimal unforced errors, but couldn't hold out Ashour in the second round match."

Pilley and Ashour, the world number two, played a fast and furious match which entertained the crowd at the English National Squash Centre.

Ashour won the first two games before Pilley took the third, only for the Egyptian to storm through the fourth and win 11-7, 11-8, 12-14, 11-3.

"I was pretty happy with the way I played in the first three," Pilley said.

"In the fourth I just opened the court up too much, giving him every chance to attack and he just gobbled them up."

Pilley now heads to Philadelphia for the next week's US Open, where he takes on another Egyptian, Omar Mosaad, in the first round.
