Pizza Hut invents Vegemite crust pizza for Australia Day
IT IS the pizza Waltzing Matilda would order, to have delivered within 30 minutes to his billabong.
American chain Pizza Hut is donning the green and gold for January 26, inventing a pizza with a vegemite-and-cheese-filled crust in honour of Australia Day 2015.
It shall be known as the "Mitey Stuffed Crust Pizza".
Those unwilling to cook on our national day will be able to transform any pizza into something more 'Strayan, by paying an extra $3 to have it Mitey Stuffed.
Pizza Hut Australia's Fatima Syed said the pairing of the two flavours was "a rite of passage" that many Australians would remember fondly from their childhoods.
"The Mitey Stuffed Crust Pizza works unbelievably well with any of our topping combinations," she said.
"We couldn't think of a more quintessentially Aussie pizza to launch in time for Australia Day.
The bizarre pizza option follows its December unveiling of the Doritos Crunchy Crust Pizza.
There no word on how long the Mitey Stuffed will last, but Pizza Hut says it will be around "for a limited time".
According to Twitter, Pizza Hut appears to have sold at least one.
Vegemite crusted pizza is surprisingly not that bad. Just tastes like Vegemite toast. pic.twitter.com/6iTtBt8YJS— Harry Tucker (@harrytuckerr) January 20, 2015
