Players lift rise to mark in AFL

AFL: MORANBAH Bulldogs had a successful finish to the 2017 season and are already looking forward to next year.

This year Moranbah nominated an Under 12 and Under 14s team in the Mackay AFL competition, the first Under 14 team nominated in more than 20 years.

The Under 12 team finished as runner up, following a narrow loss in the grand final, and the Under 14 finished their first season as preliminary finalists.

In a great show of sportsmanship, the Under 12s had players from Middlemount, Tieri and Nebo who rarely missed games.

To continue development and provide the young footballers with an opportunity to participate in a first class sport and education experience, the Bulldogs are hosting a Summer Development program over the Christmas Break.

The program started on November 28.

Juniors co-ordinator Ross Branch said the players had recognised that this really was the next level training and had adapted well despite the advanced drills and soaring temperatures.

"Mackay Development manager Dan Cordwell has been the facilitator of the program and has had magnificent support from the Moranbah accredited coaches to drive this program and offer it in the Central Highlands,” he said.

"The response has been magnificent and the Moranbah Bulldogs are thrilled that over 25 young Australian Rules footballers are participating in the program so far.

"This reflects the increasing number of AFL footballers that have been attracted to our sport and our club over the past few seasons.”

Players are still able to register for the final sessions on January 16, 23 and 30 for $80, which includes a training singlet and insurance.
