PRINCE Philip and former Defence Force Chief Angus Houston will be Australia's newest Knights, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said today.

Mr Abbott announced the naming of two new Knights, but no new Dames, a day after all four Australia Day Awards went to prominent women.

A statement from the Prime Minister's office said it was "fitting" that Australia paid tribute to Prince Philip's "extraordinary life of service".

It also said Sir Angus had "put Australia first" and after he emigrated to Australia as an adult, the nation was "much the better for it".
