Police call for good Samaritan to come forward

POLICE are appealing for a good Samaritan who assisted in the rescue of a man from a burning house in Upper Mount Gravatt earlier this year to come forward.

Just after 5pm on May 2, an off-duty officer was travelling to work when he noticed a two-storey home on fire on Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road and stopped to render assistance.

He was joined by around five other people in the area who assisted by obtaining tools and forcing entry into the residence.

While police have identified four of the five people involved, officers would specifically like to speak with a man who helped remove a window security screen so access could be gained to the property.

A 21-year-old male occupant was subsequently rescued from the home and was transported to hospital suffering smoke inhalation.

No one else was injured as a result of the fire, however, the house sustained extensive damage.

The QPS wants to formally recognise all of those who assisted in the rescue of the man for their bravery and courage during the incident and is seeking to identify the remaining good Samaritan.

He is described as being Middle Eastern in appearance, aged in his 20s or 30s, about 193cm tall, dressed in business attire and was in the company of a woman at the time.

Police are requesting the man make contact with Senior Sergeant Todd Sucic at Holland Park Police Station on 3853 7111.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or 24hrs a day.
