Police continue to probe fatal Bruce Hwy crash

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the fatal crash that claimed the life of 69-year-old Graeme Warren.

The Noosaville resident was pronounced deceased at the scene after his Toyota LandCruiser was struck by a Nissan Patrol that crossed the median strip from the south-bound to the north-bound lanes of the Bruce Hwy near Bells Creek on Friday afternoon.

Mr Warren was travelling south when his car was involved in a head-on crash with the Patrol.

A spokesperson from the Sunshine Coast Forensic Crash Unit said investigations would include possible driver fatigue or whether the Patrol driver had a medical condition.

Mr Warren's 67-year-old wife, who was his passenger, is in Nambour Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 57-year-old man and his 54-year-old wife from Lennox Head were in the Patrol.

The man was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital and his wife was flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

The SCFCU spokesperson said they both required surgery as a result of their injuries.

"Obviously the nature of the crash is such that the injuries are significant," the spokesperson said.

"I am led to believe they are both in intensive care, however the injuries are not deemed to be life-threatening and they are in a serious, but stable condition."

The incident, which occurred about 3km south of the Caloundra interchange, involved a total of five cars and seven other people were treated at the crash scene.
