Police deploy stingers after fire truck stolen from station

UPDATE 1.10PM: Police have charged a 25-year-old man following investigations into the alleged theft of a specialist fire vehicle from the Beenleigh Fire and Rescue Station this morning.

The 25-year-old Wynnum West man has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 19.

NOON: POLICE are investigating the alleged theft of a specialist fire vehicle from the Beenleigh Fire and Rescue Station at around 9.20am this morning.

The appliance was tracked using GPS tracking and was stopped on Tamborine Mountain Road, near the Skywalk turn off, around 9.50am after police successfully deployed stingers.

The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody and is currently assisting police with inquiries.

No one was physically injured and the truck was not damaged except for the tyres.
