Police divers find body of missing swimmer at Byron Bay
UPDATE, 6.45PM: POLICE divers have recovered the body of a man from The Island Quarry at Byron Bay.
Shortly before 5pm today the body of a man was recovered from the swimming hole on Ewingsdale Road.
While the man has not yet been formally identified, it is believed to be a 20-year-old Victorian man.
On Sunday the man was swimming at the disused quarry when his friends reported losing sight of him.
The death of the man is not being treated as suspicious.
UPDATE, 9.45am: The search for a missing 20-year-old Victorian man at a quarry in Byron Bay will resume today.
Police divers from Sydney are on their way and will join local emergency services in the search.
The man was last seen swimming with friends at the Island Quarry swimming hole on Ewingsdale Road around 1.45pm yesterday.
His friends reported losing sight of him while he was swimming in the unused quarry.
Police were contacted and a search involving numerous emergency services personnel was carried out Sunday afternoon.
February 24: POLICE are conducting a search for a swimmer who went missing at Byron Bay this afternoon.
Around 1.45pm today (Sunday February 23), the man was swimming with friends at The Island Quarry swimming hole on Ewingsdale Road.
The friends reported losing sight of the man, reported to be around 20-years-old, while he was swimming in the unused quarry.
Police were contacted and a search involving numerous emergency services personnel has been carried out throughout the afternoon.
There has been no sign of the man and the search continues.
