Police hunt driver who rammed cop car on the Capricorn Hwy
POLICE are still on the hunt for the driver of a white Toyota Landcruiser who crashed into a marked police car on the Capricorn Hwy, near Comet, yesterday afternoon.
Police intercepted the vehicle about 3.10pm and spoke to the male driver and sole occupant.
The man, believed to be from Emerald, became agitated and drove up the highway for a short distance before turning around and travelling towards the police car again.
The four-wheel-drive then collided head-on with the stationary police vehicle, while a 34-year-old male constable was still inside.
The constable managed to exit the damaged police car, before jumping out of the way as the four-wheel-drive drove towards the car again.
The police officer was not injured, but was taken to the Blackwater Hospital for a check-up.
The four-wheel-drive drove away from the scene and was last sighted near Woorabinda, about 9.40pm, last night where the driver failed to stop for police.
Police are continuing to search for the vehicle which is bearing Queensland registration 091 LBN.
If anyone spots the vehicle they are urged not to approach it, but contact Police Link on 131 444 or local police.
FRIDAY, 5PM: POLICE are currently hunting the driver of a white Toyota Landcruiser after it rammed a police vehicle on the Capricorn Hwy, about 3.30pm.
The male driver, believed to be from Emerald, crashed into the police car about 10km east of Comet.
The incident was witnessed by passing truck drivers.
It is believed the driver travelled south on Comet Downs Rd, and could be in the Rolleston vicinity.
Emerald, Springsure and Rolleston police are involved in the man hunt.
The police officer involved in the crash was taken by paramedics to Blackwater Hospital as a precaution.
