Police officer dragged in failed attempt to stop stolen car

A POLICE officer was dragged in a failed attempt to stop a stolen vehicle used as a getaway car by two women in Warwick last night.

Warwick police reported the sighting of a stolen green Holden Commodore about 9pm Friday.

An officer witnessed the car reverse into another parked vehicle before driving off.

The officer then approached the vehicle and attempted to seize the keys in the ignition, before he was dragged a short distance.

He was not seriously injured, and the car got away.

The car headed west along Victoria St, Warwick, towards Wentworth St at which time officers activated their lights and sirens for a short time, but did not pursue the vehicle.

The same car was spotted on the outskirts of Warwick a short time later.

Stingers were deployed at Leyburn and Felton, but were not successful in stopping the vehicle.

It was last seen heading toward Toowoomba, and is believed to be somewhere within the city.

Warwick police said the car, a green Holden Commodore, has significant damage to the rear bumper and a smashed driver side window.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Police Link on 131 444.
