Police search for gunman after suburban shooting
POLICE are searching for a man believed to be armed with a gun after a man was allegedly shot on Brisbane's southside.
Emergency services were called to the incident on Logan Rd at Holland Park West about 9.50pm after the 38-year-old man had reportedly been shot in the stomach and the head.
A passing doctor was on the scene at the time of the alleged shooting and administered first aid until paramedics arrived.
He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious condition.
In response to the shooting, police cordoned off the street and declared an emergent situation.
It is understood nearby residents were ordered to leave their homes as police appeared to negotiate with a person inside a unit complex on Logan Rd.
Acting Inspector Greg Veivers this morning said no one was in custody and declined to confirm if police were attempting to negotiate with a person of interest.
"Someone's been wounded and we were quite convinced someone was still outstanding with a firearm and there was the potential for further injuries," he said.
"That's why I decided to make that declaration for the safety of everybody, not only in the operation but obviously also the neighbourhood here.
"There was a considerable amount of witnesses right from the early stages right up until now ... located and interviewed."
Insp Veivers said the flow of people from the unit complex had proved to be a challenge during the investigation.
The cordoned off area was encompassed by Logan Rd, Barton Rd, Castle Hill St, Hocking St, Martin St and Nursery Rd.
Initial investigations indicate the incident was not random and police believe the alleged offender is a man.
The emergent situation has since been revoked and the roads reopened.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
