Missing students students found safe and well

UPDATE: Police have confirmed that the six teenage boys who were feared missing in an elaborate stormwater drain system in Brisbane's west have been accounted for and are safe and well.

Nine News has reported that the boys were from the nearby Indooroopilly State High School and exited the drain further along the network.

The teens were spotted entering the drain and it was feared they would be washed away following heavy rain.

Police have slammed their behaviour as extremely risky.

EARLIER: A SEARCH is underway for up to six students in Brisbane's west who were seen entering a stormwater drain this morning.

Swift water rescue crews have entered the drain in search of the group, who were spotted entering the drain in Carnarvon Road, near Indooroopilly State High School, about 8.40am.

A recent 7 News post on Twitter said: "Storm water drain being searched. All Indooroopilly State High School students have been accounted for".

Police have confirmed that it was a teacher from  Indooroopilly State High who saw the group, reportedly wearing casual clothes and backpacks, playing in the drain.

 

However, it is understood the search is continuing.

Nine's reported said four students were reported absent from school as the search entered its third hour.

Police are also on scene.

Steady rain has been falling across Brisbane this morning, with 5.6 millimetres recorded at the CBD weather station between 9am and 10am.

A further 6.2 millimetres fell in the 24 hours until 9am, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
